Overview: The Licensed Clinician or Resident in Counseling is responsible for providing outpatient therapy services to LGBT Life Center clients and the LGBTQIA+ community. The position is primarily responsible for access to services such as individual, group, and family therapy. Position is responsible for crisis intervention, peer/family counseling and support, screening, assessment, treatment, consultative services, education and engagement, linkage to community resources, outreach and advocacy.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Collaborate and assist with clinical engagement of contracted counselors and IPV counselor staff member.

  • Adhere to projected billable hours and support the expansion of counseling services through internships additional contractor agreements.

  • Maintain client records and reports completed in a timely manner. Provide data and documentation required to maintain administrative records and report on program development.

  • Participate in outreach into the community to identify prospective clients and/or community needs and facilitate the satisfaction of those needs. Provide educational presentations, as needed, within the agency and throughout the community.

  • Provide support with training for all counseling and clinical staff, independent contractors, and master’s level student interns (as assigned).

  • Work collaborative with LGBT Life Center Team to ensure clinicians are properly closing their progress notes and maintaining a high quality of documentation and care.

  • Participate in counseling team meetings, interdisciplinary care management meetings, assessment and planning conferences, and collaboration with other coordinated care staff.

  • Participate in the implementation and maintenance of appropriate policies and procedures for LGBT Life Centers’ behavioral health programs.

  • Ensure that client documents and records are managed in keeping with all HIPAA standards.

  • Ensure that National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) are met.

  • Promote positive client relations in accordance with LGBT Life Center policies and procedures. Serve as an advocate for clients concerning their mental health needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry a caseload equivalent to 30+ billable hours per week (In-person and Telehealth).

  • Provide comprehensive services for LGBT Life Center clients, including initial assessment and ongoing services.

  • Create treatment plans, defining and prioritizing the areas to be addressed, working with the client to develop short and long- term goals and the strategies for achieving them within a given time frame.

  • Provide individual, family, and group sessions to facilitate the changes the client desires or needs.

  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.

  • Consult and collaborate with other professionals both within and outside the agency to facilitate client treatment.

  • Completes clinical documentation in electronic health record and assure that all filing of clinical information and submission of billing information are done accurately and within the timeframe desired.

  • Provides care coordination and transition to the next level of care, including screening and referrals for appropriate behavioral health services and community resources. 
  • Provides direct supervision to assigned staff.
  • Contributes to the development of department process improvements. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Graduate Degree in behavioral health, counseling, social work, and/or psychology with at least two years of demonstrated clinical experience post Licensure. Actively licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Clinical Psychology LCP) by the Board of Behavioral Health Examiners, preferred. Licensed Candidates must have a provider NPI number and excellent knowledge of suicidal risk assessment, safety planning, crisis intervention, levels of care and trauma-informed practices that promote client engagement. Extensive knowledge of mental health and community resources is preferred, as well as exceptional understanding of HIPAA and protecting client confidentiality. Competent in using electronic medical records (EMRs) and information systems in providing effective documentation of client care. Professional, diplomatic, focused, and non-judgmental in difficult situations. Able to work in fast paced environment with changing deadlines and priorities while maintaining a positive attitude.

Job Knowledge and Skills:

This position requires knowledge of and sensitivity to target populations (LGBTQ+ communities, homeless populations, persons experiencing mental health concerns, persons experiencing substance use, youth) along with the ability to work in both clinical and community environments. Ability to work independently and with multicultural as well as diverse populations required. Effective oral and written communication skills required. Excellent organizational, decision-making, problem- solving, and time-management skills are required to handle multiple activities related to program implementation. Computer knowledge should include Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook).

Physical Requirements:

Must have reliable transportation and acceptable driving record is required. This work requires the following physical activities: walking, sitting, hearing/seeing, talking in person or on the phone. Occasional walking, bending, standing, and driving are needed. Work is performed in an office setting. Work is also performed in social and community settings, as necessary. Minimal to moderate lifting is required at times. Extended work schedule may apply to accommodate agency’s needs.
